Casting Call Aftermath
Well, after meeting with 35 potential candidates, I was exhausted but loved the experience. This was a first for Torani HR as we usually comb through resumes, do some phone screens, have people come in for assessment testing, and go through a series of interviews. At least that's what we do for front-line individual contributor candidates. This time we met many candidates all at once, face-to-face. Some learnings:
- Lots of people have been out of work a very, very long time.
- 5-10 minutes with each candidate is enough time to indicate if they are a fit.
- Having people all come in for an open "casting call" is a great way to show off our brand.
- When running a video on a loop for candidates to watch while they wait should be longer than 5 minutes.
Out of the 35 talented candidates we met with, it looks like we will go forward on 8 for testing and interviewing. I bet that if we would have just received 35 random resumes through our website, we would have come up with far fewer people to bring in.
